The Kew Bridge Steam Museum has been shortlisted for the prestigious ‘Eurostar Visit London Awards 2005’ awards. The museum has been selected from hundreds of applicants, for the coveted Small Visitor Attraction category, along with 5 other London venues. The winners will be announced at a gala evening, at Old Billingsgate Market on Tuesday 29 November 2005.

The other venues, in the Small Visitor Attraction category, include Dulwich Picture Gallery, Fashion and Textile Museum, South London Gallery, Fan Museum and the Bramah Tea and Coffee Museum.

Lesley Bossine, Director of the Museum said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be nominated for the Visit London Awards. It has been a busy year for us with a varied programme of events and activities. This nomination is testimony to the hard work and dedication of our small team of staff and large team of volunteers. We’d like to thank everyone who has supported us to date. We are all fingers crossed here for a win on the night!”

The museum, which has recently celebrated it thirtieth anniversary and is largely run by volunteers, offers a wide range of activities for people of all ages. There is a busy programme of events and exhibitions throughout the year, as well as interactive educational events, for schools during term times and for children throughout the holidays. The museum is also available for corporate hire, both inside and outside in the new garden, for events such as Weddings and Birthday parties.

The museum, which is now free entry to all children under 16, offers free rides on the steam train, its giant beam and rotative engines in steam, Water For Life Gallery, a café and shop, group visits and behind the scenes tours.

How to find the steam museum:


In Green Dragon Lane, Brentford, Middlesex about 100 yards from the north side of Kew Bridge under the tall Victorian tower. Nearest motorway M4 (turn off at junction 2 signposted to Kew Gardens and north/south circular roads), down to Chiswick roundabout, then pick up signs for Kew, Brentford and Hounslow. Turn right to Brentford at traffic lights before Kew Bridge. Click here for a map.
