Serious breaches of safety on the District Line could result in legal action against London Underground.

The independent watchdog, Office of Rail Regulation (ORR), confirmed it sent a letter to London Underground relating to three incidents of trains running through red lights on the District Line.

ORR has demanded London Underground address the issue or face legal action.

Responding to suggestions that the District Line may have to close whilst improvements were made, the ORR stated that it was 'very unlikely.'

London Underground, who have until 15th September to carry the work said that closure rumours were 'utter nonsense'.
