Ealing North has re-elected local man Stephen Pound  as MP (pictured right). The Labour candidate retains the seat he has held since 1997 on a reduced majority of 13.5%

In a field strong in candidates who are active contributors to the local scene, the Conservative candidate, Roger Curtis, held onto second place with local Councillor Franc Fruzza performing strongly in third place gaining 20.1% of the votes.

Alan Outten, the Green candidate said the day after the election

In the last election Steve's majority for Labour was reduced from 29,904 to 25,022 although his share of the vote rose from  53.7% to 55.7%. The Conservatives lost ground to the Liberal Democrats, as their share of the vote fell from 37.2% to 29.3%.

Turnout in this election was 58.2% of those eligible to vote an increase in the participation seen in 2001.

Mr. Pound lives in his constituency and was born in Hammersmith. He has worked in a wide range of fields, from seaman and hospital porter to Area Housing Manager of Paddington Churches Housing Association. He served as a Councillor in Ealing for a number of years, as well as being Mayor from 1995-6, and now serves on a variety of Parliamentary Committees and Groups, with particular interests in housing, Europe, Ireland, transport and local government.
